A custom vanity can add luxury and convenience to your bathroom. Designers and woodworkers at Maryland Wood Countertops can help you achieve the perfect look and functionality.
Custom Vanity Basics
Depending on your stylistic taste and lifestyle needs, your custom vanity can be simple or lavish. Space is the primary reason clients request new vanities. When clients seek out Maryland Wood Countertops for the vanity projects, we often get the following questions:
- Is a wood vanity suitable for the bathroom?
- Do I have to redo my entire bathroom to get a new vanity?
- How long will my bathroom be out of commission?
Moisture used to be a common issue with wood surfaces, but not anymore. Our woodworkers are experts at waterproofing your vanity top. You should still take some minimal precautions. Using your bathroom fan for ventilation is always a good idea, and never let water stand on your wood surfaces.
Products like nail polish remover, perfume and first aid products will damage your vanity’s finish. However, since wood is renewable, you can repair this type of damage by sanding and, if necessary, re-staining the wood. Wipe down your vanity regularly to avoid hairspray buildup that can dull and damage the finish.
We will do our best to make sure that your vanity installation is quick, making sure to thoroughly clean up afterward. After cutting a template, we take it back to our workshop and build your vanity there. During your project, we’ll always keep you in the loop and we’ll take the time necessary to build exactly what you want.
Best Woods for Bathroom Vanities
An oak top is one of our favorites for surfaces that will regularly get wet. While you can always add a waterproof finish during the process, oak is known for being a moisture-resistant species.
Another good surface for bathroom countertops and vanities is sapele mahogany. The warm reddish brown sapwood and pale create a stunning combination. Sapele mahogany also smells a bit like cedar.
We’ve used salvaged pine in bathroom projects. Reclaimed pine is another warm red wood. It’s a great choice if you want wood with knotholes and other distinctive markings that add visual interest.
